Marine Biology
Marine biology is the scientific study of organisms in the ocean or other bodies of water. A large proportion of all life on earth lives in the ocean, and the exact proportion is unknown because so much of the ocean is still unexplored, leaving many species undiscovered. Due to the immense depth (literally) of marine biology, there are many sub-fields of study that are often highly specific. Marine biologists study all the different habitats of the ocean, from the tiny layers of surface water and the abiotic items trapped between the ocean and the atmosphere all the way to the oceanic trenches, some 10,000 meters below the surface.
It is beginning to be understood just how much the well-being of marine organisms is linked to the well-being of all life on Earth. This has been understood from an economic perspective for generation, as humans benefit from the ocean as it provides food, medicine, raw materials, and recreational and tourist opportunities all over the world. Additionally, the well-being of the ocean has a huge impact on the rest of the world because of the inherently intertwined relationship between the land and the sea. The ocean plays a significant role in the carbon cycle, the process of Earth's respiration, and countless land and sea based ecosystems.

Beaugregory Damselfish
Beaugregory damselfish is a species found near the sea bed in shallow waters in the western fringes of the Atlantic Ocean. Their maximum depth is about 10 meters, or 33 feet, below the surface and its range extends from Florida to the south of Brazil. They primarily reside im the demersal zone, within about 50 cm of the seabed, and it favours seagress meadows and coral reefs. They feed primarily on seaweed but are also known to consume marine worms, molluscs, and various protists.
Damselfish are not very social fish but the males are very territorial and will attack other males of the species who encroach on its territory. During breeding season the damselfish hide their eggs in a shell or under a stone and the male guards the eggs from predators and fans them to keep them well oxygenated.

Survivalism
Survivalism is a movement of individuals (known as survivaists or preppers) actively preparing for emergencies, such as disruptions to the social or political order, on a local and international scale. Survivalists need to acquire emergency medical and self-defense training, stockpile food and water, and prepare to become self-sufficient, often including learning how to build shelters.
While the term survivalist has been around since the 1970s, the term prepper gained popularity in the 1990s and often carries a negative connotation associated with terrorists such as Ted Kaczynski, who executed a national bombing campaign against modern technology, and Timothy McVeigh, responsible for the Oklahoma City Bombing.
The origins of the modern survivalist movement can be found in the mid-20th century as the world found itself on the brink of nuclear war. Since then the trend has spiked in the late 90s in preparation for the supposed Y2K disaster and again post 9/11. Modern survivalism accounts for disasters not only due to war, but also widespread disease, energy shortages, and environmental disasters as a result of climate change.

Common Preparations
One of the most common and important survivalist preparations is a clandestine and defensible retreat or safe haven, such as Jules' bunker/lab. These havens are generally stockpiled with non-perishable food, water and water-purification equipment, clothing, firewood, weapons, and medical supplies.
There is a huge range of perspective within survivalism as far as how much preparation is necessary. Some live with a simple "be prepared" outlook on life and others aim to be fully-prepared to remain self-sufficient in the event of some kind of permenant breakdown, referred to sa the Third Dark Age.
The American Red Cross recommends everyone be prepared with a "72-Hour-Kit" in their homes and cars in the event of an emergency or evacuation. These kits include essential emergency items such as a first aid kit, three days worth of food and water for each member of a household, and important paperwork and emergency contact information.
